WTCR cars complete pre-season test at Zandvoort
The World Touring Car Cup drivers and teams were on track at circuit Zandvoort earlier this week, the second significant unofficial test session after a number of teams tested at Monza last week.
Monza saw a handful of TCR Europe and WTCR teams test together, with Romeo Ferraris running its Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR for Fabrizio Giovanardi, Gianni Morbidelli and Kevin Gleason, while Yvan Muller Racing, Target Competition, M1RA and BRC Racing Team were all present with their Hyundai i30 N TCRs.
This week in The Netherlands, Comtoyou Racing were on track with their four Audi RS 3 LMSs, with Denis Dupont running in his RACB Club livery, and Aurélien Panis and Nathanael Berthon in identical blue, black and red cars – while Audi factory driver Frédéric Vervisch was running in plain silver and red Audi colours.
Team WRT were there as well, with BTCC graduate Gordon Shedden in the unnumbered car, and with TCR International Series champion Jean-Karl Verney in the #2 Audi RS 3 LMS.
Mehdi Bennani and Rob Huff were on hand in their new Sébastien Loeb Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs, while they were also interlopers in the test, with WestCoast Racing, not understood to be running in WTCR, testing their Volkswagen Golfs with drivers they’ve chosen not to identify.
Honda cars were running as well, with Tiago Monteiro, Benjamin Lessennes and Tom Coronel running for Boutsen Ginion Racing, and with Esteban Guerrieri and Yann Ehrlacher on track for Münnich Motorsport.
The WTCR’s first official test gets underway in Spain at the end of the month.
