Andrea Argenti makes Opel switch for 2018
Andrea Argenti will switch from SEAT to Opel for the upcoming season, as the Rome-based driver persists in his South Italy Racing Team project. Having enjoyed a good start to the 2017 season, Argenti had lamented a series of issues which triggered a decision to stop racing and focus on this year.
“After last year’s experience we wanted a completely independent choice from the Volkswagen Group cars,” explained Argenti. “Together with our engineer Emmanuele Cicco we decided the Astra TCR was the best solution. Kevin Giacon has proved its potential last year, but the ability to work with support from German engineers and the technical qualities finally convinced us this was the way to go for us.”
Argenti couldn’t test his new car properly due to a particularly cold winter in Italy, but he can’t wait to get behind the wheel of his new Astra TCR.
“I only managed four laps at Vallelunga in very cold conditions and, although they were enough to feel the difference between what I’d driven before and this car, I can’t wait to get behind the wheel in a proper test on a dry track. We need to work on the set up of the car as well as the new Michelin tyres.”
