Jean-Karl Vernay and Gordon Shedden lead Team WRT Audi assault on 2018 WTCR
Team WRT have confirmed they will field two Audi RS 3 LMSs in this year’s World Touring Car Cup, after running the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in the past two TCR International Series seasons, with 2017 TCR champion Jean-Karl Vernay and three-time BTCC champion Gordon Shedden completing their line-up.
The Belgian squad won the TCR International Series on both of their attempts, with Stefano Comini winning the title in the team’s debut season in 2016, before Vernay, with support throughout the season from Rob Huff and Gordon Shedden, clinched the title at the season finale in Dubai last year.
The team make the switch to Audi, with Audi Sport customer racing supporting both drivers on an official basis, as well as Frédéric Vervisch, who will again race with Comtoyou Racing this season.
“We look forward to the strong competition in the new racing series which is an attractive stage for many manufacturers in touring car racing,” said Chris Reinke, head of Audi Sport customer racing.
“Our teams and drivers bring valuable experiences from touring car racing and other disciplines to the grid, so we intend to battle for the titles in the drivers’ and teams’ classifications.”
