Nicky Catsburg to race in Stock Car Brasil Championship’s “enduro” event
Former Volvo factory WTCC driver Nicky Catsburg will take part in the opening round of the Stock Car Brasil Championship next month in Sao Paulo in the “Race of doubles.”
Catsburg will share a Chevrolet Cruze V8 stock car with 2017 champion Felipe Fraga, run by CIMED Racing.
Catsburg joins an all-star line-up at the event, which includes current TCR International Series champion Jean-Karl Vernay.
A number of ex-Formula 1 drivers will also take part in the race, with Felipe Massa one of Catsburg’s team-mates at CIMED Racing, who will share his car with former Chevrolet WTCC driver and five-time Brazilian Stock Car Champion Carlos ‘Caca’ Bueno.
“I am super excited at the prospect of racing in the Brazilian Stock Car Championship,” said Catsburg. “I am extremely grateful for the invitation to join Filipe at CIMED Racing for the event where so many unbelievably high-quality drivers will be on the grid.
“I think there will be something like eight ex-F1 drivers as well as some amazing GT drivers present, so I will need to be on my best game to compete at the front where CIMED expect to be.
“My experience in the WTCC combined with my GT experience should put me in with a good chance.”
