Gabriele Tarquini fastest in final practice for the TCR Europe Trophy

Hyundai Motorsport’s Gabriele Tarquini was fastest of all in the final practice session for the TCR Europe Trophy race at Adria, just three-thousandths ahead of trophy favourite Josh Files’ Honda Civic TCR.

The Italian put his i30 N TCR to the top of the time sheets at the half-way mark, deposing the Target Competition Honda Civic of Giacomo Altoè, who’d led the way in the first practice session.

Just after Tarquini set his best time, there were few improvements as Denis Grigoriev spun off at the chicane in his Innocenti-AMG SEAT León, with the yellow flags out as his car was recovered.

When the session resumed, Files was the only man to threaten Tarquini’s stranglehold on the session, lapping regularly in the low 1:20s, coming just three-thousandths away on his first run in the Target Competition Honda Civic.

Altoè finished the session third, with Luca Engstler, who opted to skip the first session, fourth fastest in the Engstler Motorsport Volkswagen Golf, with Luiga Ferrara fifth in the V-Action Racing Team Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Swiss driver Florian Thoma was sixth in the second of Engstler’s Volkswagens, with Plamen Kralev seventh in the Kraf Racing Audi RS 3 LMS.

Maxime Potty was eighth for Team WRT, with Giovanni Altoè and Francisco Abreu all rounding out the top ten in their Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs.

The next session is qualifying at 15:00 CET.
