Super GT and DTM cars to run together this weekend at Hockenheim
The technical partnership between the DTM and Japanese Super GT, which is set to be in effect from 2019, will be put on stage this weekend at Hockenheim, with cars from both championships on track together for an exhibition run this afternoon.
The Lexus LC500 and the Nissan GT-R were both on track yesterday afternoon, with Heikki Kovalainen and Ronnie Quintarelli on driving duties. The cars ran on their original tyres, with the Lexus running on Bridgestone, with the Nissan on Michelin rubber.
The cars weren’t fitted with a transponder, so no official timing was provided, but engineers had timed the runs to be about two seconds faster than the current DTM cars.
Today and tomorrow afternoon, two show runs will take place, with the DTM taxi ride cars sharing the track with the Super GT cars.
Formula 1 safety car driver and former DTM racer for Mercedes Bernd Mayländer will be at the wheel of the Mercedes C63 DTM, with Formula E champion Lucas Di Grassi driving the Audi RS 5 DTM, and BMW junior driver Joel Eriksson driving the BMW M4 DTM.
