Rob Huff: “We’ve seen more overtaking today than we’ve ever had”
Rob Huff remarked that the Zhejiang circuit delivered more than it promised, with the unusually twisty new circuit delivering one of the most eventful races of the season, with the 2012 WTCC champion winning his first race of the year in Race 2.
Huff started from pole position in Race 1, but a clutch issue meant he dropped down the order and had to battle his way forward to finish third in the race.
In Race 2, despite starting tenth on the grid, the Briton carved his way forward, and was up to second by lap five before taking ten laps to cut down race leader James Nash’s lead and take the win.
“I’m hugely pleased to have my first TCR win this year, and have a podium and pole position all in my last weekend,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes.
“It’s a very tight and twisty track, and everyone said you weren’t going to be able to overtake, but we’ve seen more overtaking today than we’ve ever had, and the good news at the end is that (my team-mate) Jean-Karl (Vernay)’s now going to Dubai with a 21-point lead, and he’s going to have a bloody good team-mate there to help him out,” he added, alluding to his as-yet unnamed stand-in.
“I need to say a huge thanks to the Leopard WRT team for welcoming me and letting me put my touch on their championship, and hopefully JK now wins the championship in Dubai.”
