Gianni Morbidelli slams Rob Huff’s “dirty driving” in China
WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli was upset with Volkswagen rival Rob Huff’s on-track behaviour in China, after the two made side-by-side contact on the fifth lap of the second race as they battled over third position at Zhejiang.
Huff was charging through the order in his Team WRT Volkswagen Golf, and overtook Morbidelli who had been held up by the Comtoyou Racing Audi RS 3 on lap five, eventually going on to take the victory after passing Vervisch and later Craft-Bamboo SEAT’s James Nash.
“The video shows everything,” said an aggrieved Morbidelli to TouringCarTimes. “And what he did in the first race was exactly the same. To me, this was over the limit.
“I was fighting with Vervisch and he was closing the doors, but he was trying to do his race, but to overtake at a place like this you have to be very careful, as you can damage the car or get a drive-through and I didn’t want that. But if you can drive like Huff and push as he did, and nobody does anything, maybe I should play the same game? But I don’t think that’s the philosophy.”
Huff however feels his pass was aggressive but fair, and that the Italian had closed the door on him.
“It was tough racing,” Huff told TouringCarTimes. “Gianni can say people are being dirty, but he’s always got something to whinge about, and if you drive on the racing line when someone is quicker than you and they put their car up the inside and you try and turn in, you can’t, as there’s a car there. According to him, that’s being dirty, and if that’s how he wants to think about it, that’s fair enough.”
