Andretti Racing buys into Walkinshaw Racing for 2018
Walkinshaw Racing has announced a partnership with American motorsport giants Andretti Autosport and United Motorsports.
“To be able to partner with both Andretti Autosport and United Autosports is an honour. We’ve looked from afar at what both have to offer the team moving forward, which is why everyone should be so excited,” said Ryan Walkinshaw, chairman of Walkinshaw Racing.
The team will change name from HSV Racing to Walkinshaw Andretti United in 2018, forming a split ownership between the existing Walkinshaw Racing squad, Andretti Autosport and United Autosports.
“I’m very excited to announce our new partnership with Walkinshaw Racing and United Autosports,” said Michael Andretti, CEO and Chairman, Andretti Autosport.
”I have always set a goal for Andretti Autosport to diversify and succeed across multiple platforms, and this opportunity is a natural next step for the team as we continue to expand globally. Together with Walkinshaw Racing and United Autosports, we now have three iconic organisations working together. We are determined to succeed, and I have full confidence that this new venture, Walkinshaw Andretti United, will become a leading Supercars team.”
Andretti Autosport has claimed four IndyCar Series titles and two Indy Lights titles while United Autosports are the current European Le Mans Series LMP3 Champions, owned by Zak Brown and Richard Dean.
HSV Racing fields two Holden Commodores in the 2017 Supercars Championship, driven by Scott Pye and James Courtney.
