Colin Turkington concentrating on extracting maximum from BMW
Title contender Colin Turkington said he isn’t expecting to be in the battle for pole at Brands Hatch this afternoon, but is confident of extracting the maximum from his car in his fight with Ash Sutton.
West Surrey Racing’s Turkington said he made good progress with his BMW 125i M-Sport in second practice, despite reporting a misfire early on and ending with the 18th fastest time.
The double champion, who trails Team BMR’s Sutton by 10 points heading into the final three races of the season, said he wasn’t reading too much into the practice times.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Turkington said: “We made a good step forward with the car between practice one and two, so we’re moving in the right direction.
“I’m feeling more confident with the car, but we need another small step. We’re going to focus on trying to maximise the chassis and see what happens.
“I’ve not had a pole all year and I’m not expecting it later! I’ve just got to maximise what I have. You never know anyone’s full pace until qualifying, so hopefully there is more to come.
“Free practice times are really just a guide at this stage.”
Turkington’s rival Sutton finished the session in eighth, around 0.4 seconds faster than the Northern Irishman.
