Gordon Shedden seeks to end reign on a high
Gordon Shedden says he is keen to bring his reign as BTCC champion to an end when the season draws to a close at Brands Hatch next weekend.
The Scot retains the slenderest of mathematical chances going into the final three races of the year, but would need a turn-around the like of which has never been seen before in order to take a third successive crown.
Currently sitting in third place, Shedden will hope to maintain an impressive record that has seen him finish inside the top three every season since his return to Team Dynamics back in 2010.
“My main aim for Brands Hatch will be to finish the season on a high – and I’ll certainly be giving it a go!“ he said. ”I want to bring some silverware home, and obviously third place in the championship is still up for grabs and is very important to me. I’ve finished inside the top three in the BTCC Drivers’ standings every year since 2010, so I want to keep that run going.
“It’s a three-way fight that closed up considerably at Silverstone and there will clearly be some very quick cars in the mix, but I’m confident that the Civic Type R will perform well around Brands GP and I’ve obviously got good memories of the track, having won the title there three times.
“There’s always a fantastic atmosphere there to end the season and it’s the kind of circuit that should play to our strengths, so we need to make sure we exploit that.”
