Majority of the field opt to run the hard tyres in Race 3 at Silverstone

The tyre selection for today’s races at Silverstone have been confirmed, with 22 of the 32-car field opting to run the hard Dunlop option tyre in the third and final race of the day.

Just four drivers will run the non-favourable hard tyre, which is believed to be difficult to make the most of given the cool and greasy conditions, in the first race – TPR’s Stephen Jelley, Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin, BTC Racing’s Chris Smiley and Motorbase driver Martin Depper.

Six drivers will run the hard tyre in Race 2, including the two West Surrey Racing BMWs of Colin Turkington and Rob Collard, as they’ve already used all their first and last race allocation for the year, as well as the Team Dynamics Honda of Matt Neal.

The bulk of the field will run the tyre in the final race of the day, which should rain fall late in the day would mean the tyre doesn’t need to be used at all.
