Josh Cook to race on under appeal

Josh Cook will take part in the opening race at Silverstone due to the ongoing appeal into the penalty he was given during the final race of the weekend at Rockingham.

The Triple Eight driver was given his fourth strike of the campaign after contact with Stephen Jelley in the Rockingham race, which triggered a one race ban to be taken at the next available opportunity.

Triple Eight appealed the decision with a hearing taking place at Silverstone on Friday, where the decision was taken to uphold the initial penalty.

The MG team then confirmed that it would further appeal the decision with the MSA National Court, which is unlikely to sit before the conclusion of the season at Brands Hatch at the end of the month.

As a result, Cook will race under appeal for the remaining six races of the campaign before the National Court hearing takes place, with any results to that point – and the championship standings – being provisional.

Should Triple Eight be successful with the appeal, then the results of those races would stand, but a decision to uphold the penalty would then result in Cook losing his results from those races contested under appeal.
