Adam Morgan: “It was a step into the unknown”

Adam Morgan admitted that qualifying for the penultimate meeting of the BTCC season at Silverstone had been a ‘step into the unknown’ after issues in practice cost him valuable time on track.

Morgan was black-flagged for track limits infringements during the second free practice session and sat out the closing stages of the session, preventing him from completing a new tyre run in his Ciceley Motorsport-run Mercedes A-Class.

Despite that, Morgan put his car on the second row of the grid with the third fastest time – just 0.049secs down on pole-sitter Tom Ingram – with the aim now being to push for solid points on race day.

“I’m really pleased with third on the grid,” he said, “although it’s a shame that we just got pipped to a place on the front row. The car felt really solid which was good as we’d missed out on a new tyre run in FP2 when we got black flagged for track limits. We had to throw a set-up on it for qualifying but the guys did a great job and it was on rails.

“The time we set was without a tow, so it shows we have a strong package and I’m hoping we can manage the tyres well in the race and pick up some strong points. I’d prefer it to be dry although I’m not going to get my hopes up as it’s looking like it could rain.

“Even in the wet though, we showed decent pace in FP1 when the circuit was greasy and I’m looking forward to seeing what the races throw up.”
