Dusan Borkovic slams rivals for complaining about the Alfa’s speed
GE-Force Alfa Romeo driver has voiced his dissatisfaction at some of his rivals who have questioned the pace of the Alfa Romeo and the results of the Serbian this year, after his drive from 11th to second in Race 1 in Thailand drew much ire.
Borkovic was unsettled on Saturday when he was put behind WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli in qualifying. Borkovic wasn’t allowed to take part in the second segment of qualifying after having received outside assistance in the first part, when he hit the tyre stack at Turn 1 after his first lap.
“I was very stressed after the misunderstanding about qualifying, but then I said OK, I don’t have anything to lose; I lost a position at the start, but then the race was really good for us,” Borkovic told TouringCarTimes.
The 32-year-old then focussed his attention to the comments of his rivals.
“I want to say one thing to the drivers who are crying about the speed of the Alfa; I’ve never heard (Marc) Márquez or (Valentino) Rossi crying about Ducati – our car was really good for this circuit; in Oschersleben the corners were too slow for us, but here it is much better.
“People say I’m a slow driver who is only winning because our car is good on the straight, but I showed my speed last year; with a different car (the SEAT) I was on pole position in Oschersleben.
“We only have a 1.7 engine in the Alfa, so we don’t have good top power but we have good acceleration. I want to say a big thanks to Mario Ferraris, who’s doing an amazing job with this small team.”
