James Nash targeting victory after career-best qualifying result in Thailand
Craft-Bamboo Racing’s James Nash says the aim is nothing short of stopping Mat’o Homola taking his first win tomorrow, as the Briton hopes to score key points tomorrow to keep his championship aspirations alive in Thailand after qualifying on the front row for the first time in the series.
Nash qualified just four-thousandths of a second behind Homola’s Opel Astra, losing out on having a second attempt when the driveshaft broke on his SEAT León TCR, but the 31-year-old hopes to get the jump on Homola’s Opel at the start of the race and score his first win since the second race at Buriram this time last year.
“It’s a nice event and the track seems to suit my style,” said Nash to TouringCarTimes. “I don’t think the car’s the quickest, but we’re driving it well and we’ve got a good balance, so as long as I can get if off the line well.”
“We had a bit of a problem just after our best lap. After Turn 3 I hit the brakes and our driveshaft snapped. The car feels really strong, and I’ve not seen the Opel start that well, and if I can get past him off the line I don’t think he’ll have the race pace,” he added.
“I’ve got to go for the win tomorrow in Race 1, and then see where I can get in Race 2, but I need to score some big points.”
