Comtoyou Racing Audis aiming for reversed grid as their best shot

The Comtoyou Racing Audi RS 3 LMSs of Stefano Comini and Frédéric Vervisch have been fighting to get into top ten through practice in Thailand, with Comini putting his car in eighth on a final run in the second practice session, with team-mate Vervisch saying the reversed grid pole is probably their best opportunity for a good result.

With the Buriram International Circuit being a top-speed rewarding circuit, it has worked well for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Honda Civic so far in practice, not counting Kantadhee Kusiri’s pace in the Volkswagen on new tyres in FP1, but the saloon-shaped Audi was also expected to fare well in Thailand.

“We thought here would be very good for us, but it doesn’t seem to be, which is very disappointing, as we’re not hiding our pace,” said Vervisch to TouringCarTimes.

“We don’t have the same top speed, and the temperature here is affecting a lot of cars. I think if we can get into the top ten, that’ll at least give us the reversed grid for the second race, I think that’s all we can do here,” he added.

“However, maybe we’ll find something before qualifying, but in general we’re not quick enough.”

Two-time champion Stefano Comini is third in the drivers’ standings, nine points behind current points leader Jean-Karl Vernay coming to the event.
