René Rast heads the standings at the season mid-point
Audi Sport driver René Rast clinched his second DTM victory of the season today at the Moscow Raceway, returning to the series’ lead as the season reaches the mid-point, with the second half of the season starting tomorrow with a very tight battle at the top.
Rast started from an inherited pole position to dominate the race from the lights to the chequered flag. The German driver from Team Rosberg took not only the second victory of the season, but also of his DTM career.
“It was an awesome race,” said Rast. “The car was mega, the pit stop superb, I want to give a big thank you to the team! Being in the top spot of the championship again is a tremendous feeling.”
Rast leads the standings on 99 points, four ahead of Mercedes’ Lucas Auer and six over fellow Audi driver Mattias Ekström.
Auer driver from Team HWA had a different strategy, pitting early to recover from 14th on the grid to finish sixth. “What happened in the race itself was the exact opposite of what we had expected. I was very happy with the way it turned out, and the basis for the points was the first lap plus a clever strategy,” said Auer.
Audi Sport has extended its lead in the manufacturers table with 378 points on their account, 69 over Mercedes AMG. BMW Motorsport remains in third position 102 points behind the Ingolstadt based team.
