Guillaume Mondron back with new co-driver as Giacomo Altoè steps down at Zolder

Delahaye Racing’s Guillaume Mondron will continue his title challenge this weekend at Zolder with his third co-driver of the season, racing with Lorenzo Donniacuo this weekend in the #4 Volkswagen Golf GTI, switching back from the SEAT León TCR.

Mondron, second in standings on 214 points, trailing the Boutsen Ginion Honda of Benjamin Lessennes by 21 points, will drive with a third co-driver, after racing with brother Edouard earlier in the year as well as TCR International Series star Giacomo Altoè.

His Honda rival’s co-driver will be reigning champion Stéphane Lémeret, with Tom Coronel on duty in Argentina for the WTCC, and with Boutsen Ginion Racing’s second car now commited to the International Series with Aurélien Panis.

Mondron’s original plan was not to contest the fourth round, but plans were later changed for him to race with Altoè at Zolder, before the 16-year-old was ordered to rest after a major incident at the start of the last race at Oschersleben.

“Everything was planned so that I could again team up with Giacomo Altoè, with whom I had already raced on the Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands,” said Mondron. “We had won the long race together and Giacomo had won one of his sprints, but following a major accident at Oschersleben last weekend, he was slightly injured and the doctors advised him to stay at rest.

“It was a bit stressful because you had to find an ideal replacement in a very short time. With Lorenzo as a team-mate, I am reassured: we know each other well and I know that I can totally trust him to help me improve my position in the championship. Because I clearly aiming for the title.”
