Touring car veteran Felice Tedeschi joins MM Motorsport for TCR Italy debut
Felice Tedeschi will make his TCR debut in the Italian series this weekend at Mugello. The former Italian SuperTurismo driver will be at the wheel of an MM Motorsport Honda Civic TCR.
A former single seater driver, Tedeschi was a protagonist in the ’90s in the glorious SuperTurismo in the privateers’ class. The Italian says his fellow former Italian F3 driver Roberto Colciago’s performances in the TCR International Series triggered a return to touring car racing after a lengthy stop.
“When I saw Roberto being so fast in the TCR International Series I said to myself a return would be worth a shot,” said Tedeschi. “We belong to a generation that has given so much to Italian motorsport, and still does – those were the days. I was with a friend, Giuseppe Cipriani, and I met (MM Motorsport boss) Emanuele Alborghetti, and we started talking about testing the Civic TCR.”
Younger touring car fans may be familiar with Tedeschi due to his appearances in the International Superstars Series, as well as a very brief spell in the World Touring Car Championship, as the former Alfa Romeo driver joined Proteam for the 2012 event at Sonoma. An unfortunate crash in free practice cut that weekend short.
Felice Tedeschi has already tested the car at Mugello, clocking interesting lap times as he finds his feet back into touring cars.
“I took part in the tests at Mugello at the beginning of this month, and now I’m ready to fight on track. I can’t really know where I will be in terms of performances, but I am satisfied with the test I have done a few weeks ago. I feel I can improve especially in braking, but that will come as I get used to left-foot braking.”
The Mugello weekend will start on Friday with Free Practice 1 at 14:55 CET. A second session will be held at 10:10, while qualifying is scheduled for 12:50. The races will begin at 11:25 and 17:55 respectively, both lasting 25 minutes + 1 lap.
