Juan Carlos Zhu wins the second race at Shanghai Tianma
Juan Carlos Zhu won the second race of the weekend at the Shanghai Tianma Circuit, finishing almost four seconds clear of the Volkswagen of Zheng Zhen Dong, who went from 12th to second in the race his Shanghai VW 333 Racing Lamando GTS.
At the start of the race, Rainey He crashed out in his Ford Focus, with his wheel collected by the BAIC Senova D60 of Darryl O’Young, with both drivers forced into retirement.
Martin Xie in the Kia and Wang Rue in the Volkswagen also both retired from the race after the two made contact, while Mazda driver Chen Zhao collided with the Haima of Chen Xu and was also out of the race.
The safety car was out on lap two, but then the race was red flagged on lap four to clear up the remains of the carnage.
When the race resumed, Rodolfo Avila assumed the lead in the Volkswagen, but then spun off into the gravel, handing the lead to Juan Carlos Zhu in the #99 Senova D60.
Andy Yan was now in second in the Changan Ford FRD Team Ford Focus, but was soon passed by a charging Zheng Zhen Dong.
Zhu went on to win the race 4.3 seconds clear of Zheng, with Yan completing the podium. Yuan Bo was the best-placed Kia in fourth, with Chen Xu the top of the Haima drivers classified in tenth two laps down, with just nine cars making the finish from the 19 starters.
Martin Cao continues to lead the championship for Ford, but is just 12 points clear of Jiang Tengyi in the Volkswagen, who is one ahead of Juan Carlos Zhu, heading to the next race at the Shanghai International Circuit on August 6th
