Dennis Strandberg: “Results ‘critical’ to finishing season”
Dennis Strandberg believes this weekend’s Scandinavian Touring Car Championship round at Falkenberg is “critical” to securing sufficient budget for the remainder of the season.
The Lestrup Racing Team driver, whose participation in Falkenberg was only finalised on Wednesday, is competing on a race-by-race basis with no firm guarantee of future rounds.
Strandberg enjoyed a successful weekend last time out in Solvalla, bagging a pair of fifth places, before bringing the Volkswagen Golf GTI home fourth in the final race.
Testing at Falkenberg so far has been a contrast of emotions for the 23 year-old, with fifth and twelfth in the first and second tests repsectively.
Nevertheless, Strandberg is hopeful of a strong performance in the races, as he looks to see out the year.
“It’s been a struggle [since Solvalla]. We only found the money for this weekend on Wednesday. It was last-minute but this year it seems like that’s what we have to do,” Strandberg told TouringCarTimes.
“We took third most points in Solvalla, which gave us 10kg of ballast this weekend. We are there or thereabouts pace-wise which is promising, we just need the budget to compete.”
“A strong weekend is critical, especially when I’m having to find money race-by-race. We’ve got a few people onboard but it’s just that they have to say yes and show me the money,” Strandberg added.
Qualifying for round four of the STCC at Falkenberg begins at 15:30 CEST.
