Lucas Auer unfazed after not scoring points at Hungaroring
Mercedes AMG driver Lucas Auer remained positive after a difficult weekend that saw him leaving the Hungaroring without scoring any points and losing the lead of the drivers’ standings.
Auer had led the table until the third round of the season, a general lack of performance by Mercedes this weekend, together with an accident on Saturday and an engine failure on Sunday made the Austrian leave empty handed.
“After my pit stop, my engine was misfiring,” Auer told TouringCarTimes. “At the beginning, it started cutting, but then it got worse, so it was better to not force the engine and I retired.”
Despite falling to second in the standings, Auer dismissed any concerns about the situation: “Actually, I’m not worried, because my qualifying was so good. I was twice in a great position, but yes, didn’t get anything out of it. That’s it, really.”
“The performance is there. This weekend we were slower overall, but I was the best Mercedes. But, in the end, in the race, you have to get the results, and we didn’t, so I’ll go onto the next race and try again,” concluded Auer.
Ulrich Fritz, Head of DTM at Mercedes AMG, added: “We didn’t expect to lose so much here, so we have to look at the data and see where we lacked. Next for us is the Norisring, a very different track to the three we have raced so far this year, and one where we have traditionally performed well, so we hope things will be better there for us.”
