Ash Sutton remains out front at Croft
Ash Sutton remained the man to beat after topping second practice ahead of the fifth meeting of the BTCC season at Croft.
With rain continuing to fall in North Yorkshire, the Subaru driver was unable to match his pace from earlier in the morning but once again ended the 40 minute session comfortably clear of the pack behind.
This time it was the Honda of defending champion Gordon Shedden that would slot into second place, with his Dynamics team-mate Matt Neal in third.
That was despite Neal having a spin exiting the Chicane that saw his Civic Type-R sitting briefly stationary on the infield before the triple champion was able to return to the circuit.
As in FP1, the exit of the Chicane would prove to be a problematic area for drivers trying to extract the most from their cars, with Neal being one of a number to take a trip off the circuit.
Outside the top three, Jack Goff was fourth ahead of Jason Plato and Andrew Jordan, with MG pair Aron Taylor-Smith and Josh Cook rounding out the top eight.
Having impressed with the second best time in the first session, Matt Simpson ended up down in 13th place, with a spin in the Complex seeing him nudge his Honda in the tyre wall. Rob Collard’s BMW would then spin onto the grass at the same part of the circuit later in the session.
Also in trouble were Ford pair Stephen Jelley and Luke Davenport, who would suffer suspension damage after a clash in the closing minutes.
