Agustín Canapino wins qualifying race at Termas de Río Hondo
Chevrolet YPF’s Agustín Canapino took victory in Super TC 2000’s qualifying race in Termas de Río Hondo, while Esteban Guerrieri finished second for Citroen Total Racing, with Canapino’s team-mate Bernardo Llaver third.
In qualifying, only five drivers decided to use the hard compound tyre, all of which were eliminated in Q1, which was led by Llaver.
Front-runners Matías Rossi in the Toyota, Renault’s Emiliano Spataro and Facundo Ardusso dropped out in Q2, leaving Canapino to set pole with a time of 1:42.366.
During the qualifying race, Canapino held the lead ahead of the Citroën of Guerrieri and the Peugeot of Mariano Werner, while Ignacio Julián spun off on the first lap.
Guerrieri closed up on Canapino, while Werner was fighting Llaver’s Chevrolet off for third.
Former champion Matías Rossi’s Toyota stopped on lap six with temperature issues, while Canapino went on to take the win, with Guerrieri close behind.
Llaver stole third from Werner on the last corner of the last lap, with Damián Fineschi finishing fifth in his Ford Focus.
José Manual Urcera finished sixth for Citroën ahead of Luis José di Palma’s Renault, Carlos Javier Merlo’s Fiat, with Chevrolet’s Facundo Conta and Renault’s Facundo Ardusso completing the top ten.
The feature race follows on Sunday at 12:05 ART (16:05 CET), with a mandatory pit stop for different compound tyres required for every driver this weekend.
