Maxime Potty and Mathieu Detry fastest in Zolder qualifying
The Team WRT Volkswagen Golf of Maxime Potty and Mathieu Detry were fastest in the 20-minute qualifying session at the Circuit Zolder on Saturday morning, leading the Honda Civic TCR of Tom Coronel and Benjamin Lessennes.
Detry was the only driver to break into the 1:39s, setting a time of 1:39.505 just before the half-way mark of the session, over half a second clear of the Honda of Tom Coronel.
DG Sport Peugeot’s Aurélien Comte, Team WRT’s Sam Dejonghe and Boutsen Ginion Honda driver Tom Coronel all had lap times deleted during the 20-minute session.
Despite this, Coronel’s best lap of 1:40.030 was enough to secure him second fastest in the session.
Comte would end up third fastest in the 308 Racing Cup, just another three-tenths behind, with Denis Dupont making a late improvement to go fourth in the WRT SEAT León, ahead of championship leader Guillaume Mondron in the Delahaye Racing SEAT León.
Frédéric Vervisch was sixth fastest, sharing the Comtoyou Racing Audi RS 3 LMS this weekend with Stefano Comini, just ahead of the Delahaye Volkswagen of Frédéric Caprasse, with the two Bas Koeten Audis completing the top nine, with Stan van Oord leading team-mate Willem Meijer.
Reigning champion Stéphane Lémeret is absent this weekend as he’s taking part in the test days for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Boutsen Ginion Honda just fielding the one car for Tom Coronel and Benjamin Lessennes.
The aggregate of the two drivers’ times will be used to set the grid for this afternoon’s qualifying long race, which starts at 16:30 CET.
