Yann Ehrlacher disappointed the rain left before qualifying
After setting the third fastest time in the wet in Free Practice 2, RC Motorsport Lada driver Yann Ehrlacher says he was disappointed that the rain left the circuit for qualifying, and is due to stay away on Sunday, after qualifying in 11th for both races.
The Frenchman was fast in the wet part of the first practice session and again in FP2, proving to be the two Hondas closest rival, but in the dry conditions, it was the Citroëns and Chevrolets which surged forward and dominated qualifying.
“We were hoping for rain for qualifying and the races, but we have dry conditions and it’ll be the same tomorrow,” said a disappointed Ehrlacher to TouringCarTimes.
“We knew the Lada was good in wet conditions and I felt comfortable in the car. I was P3 in FP2 which wasn’t bad, but in qualifying it was a lot harder. In Q2, we were losing time in sector one to the rest – but we’re close in sectors two and three.”
Ehrlacher will start Race 1 from tenth on the grid and Race 2 from 11th after his qualifying performance, just missing out on the all-important reversed top ten.
“From what I know it’s impossible to overtake here,” said Ehrlacher. “Only maybe at the first corner of the race, so I have to do a good start and then just push and see what happens.”
