Gordon Shedden edges out second practice at Thruxton

Gordon Shedden emerged on top of the pile in a closely-fought second free practice session ahead of the third rounds of the BTCC season at Thruxton.

Despite carrying maximum ballast on his Honda Civic, Shedden edged Jack Goff out of top spot by just 0.004secs, preventing his Eurotech rival from complete a clean-sweep of the two practice session.

Adam Morgan was again towards the top of the times in his Mercedes to slot into P3, but was three-tenths of a second further back, with Rob Austin, Colin Turkington and Luke Davenport rounding out the top six – the latter enjoying by far his most competitive performance of the season to date for Motorbase Performance.

In fact, the former Ginetta driver was the only one of the Ford drivers inside the top 23 places, with team-mate Mat Jackson all the way down in 26th spot.

Championship leader Tom Ingram was down in 15th place on the grid, but there was another session of struggles for Subaru – with none of the four drivers inside the top 20.

Jason Plato was best of the quartet; 1.3secs off the pace in 23rd place.
