Daniel Nagy targeting points after career-best qualifying

Zengõ Motorsport driver Daniel Nagy, who turns 19 today, starts from 11th position for both of today’s races today at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan, and hopes to be able to break into the top ten and pick up his first championship points.

The young Hungarian missed this race last year as the team were waiting for the delivery of his Mugen engine.

“It’s amazing to be here,” said Nagy to TouringCarTimes.

“It’s hard to push hard at these kinds of circuits. We did some big changes since FP2, but I made some mistakes. I thought I’d missed Q2, but then my team told me to get back to car and put my helmet back on as I was P12. I was so happy as it would be my first time in Q2, but then Tom Coronel did a better lap by one-tenth.”

Nagy initially qualified 13th, but was promoted to 11th last night after both RC Motorsport Lada driver Yann Ehrlacher and Honda’s Ryo Michigami were excluded for missing scrutineering checks.

“This is my best qualifying result so far in the WTCC, so we’re looking forward to score some points,” he added. “Hondas often have a good start, so I’d like to make a good start and gain some positions, and then I just need to avoid the accidents that often happen here.”
