Rob Huff feels no pressure as he targets 2017 world title
British driver Rob Huff feels he has the best chance of winning the World Touring Car Championship drivers’ title since 2012, as he heads to Marrakech equipped with the championship winning car of the last two years, and expects to upset the order.
After being dropped by Honda over the off-season, the 37-year-old has found refuge at Münnich Motorsport, with the German team having bought the factory 2016 car of Yvan Muller from Citroën Racing, with Huff much fancied as the heir apparent to José María López for the WTCC drivers’ title.
“I want to win it,” said Huff. “I want to win it for René (Münnich, team principal) and the boys, and I think we have a very good chance. That’s the only reason we’re doing it, to upset the works teams, but I think it’s for the works teams to lose it.”
“I worked with (this team) in 2013 and I’ve stayed in contact with René Münnich over the years, and it is thanks to him we’re here.
“We’re a family spirited team, and I’ve always said this team is by far the most professional private team I’ve ever worked with. They understand the car very well, and Citroën have also helped a lot.”
