Andrew Jordan celebrates BMW debut with victory

Andrew Jordan enjoyed the perfect start to his career with West Surrey Racing with victory in the final race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.

Jordan made the perfect start when the lights went out to jump from third on the grid into the lead and then set about pulling out a lead over poleman Tom Chilton.

Running on the harder compound tyre, Jordan extended his advantage over the chasing pack behind, with Chilton putting in a strong performance in the new Vauxhall Astra behind.

It was another BMW that was on the move however, with Colin Turkington working his way forwards from tenth on the grid.

The Northern Irishman was soon into the top six and before half way, was into the podium positions after an impressive move on team-mate Rob Collard going into Paddock Hill Bend.

Turkington then set about chasing down Chilton’s Astra and took the place at Surtees on lap 17 before going after Jordan; bringing down the gap until the pair were running nose to tail in the final two laps.

Despite the best efforts of Turkington, Jordan held on to secure victory with Turkington just three tenths of a second behind, with Chilton third as returning manufacturers BMW and Vauxhall completed the podium.

Matt Neal took fourth to recover points from a tough weekend with Adam Morgan’s Mercedes and the third BMW of Rob Collard rounding out the top six places.

Seventh spot for Gordon Shedden was enough to confirm his position as championship leader at the end of the weekend ahead of Tom Ingram, who had to settle for eleventh in the final race.

A difficult weekend for Subaru saw the team fail to score in the final race, with Jason Plato unable to take the start after the damage he sustained in race two.
