Tom Ingram remains out front at Brands Hatch

Tom Ingram continued to lead the way for Speedworks after the second free practice session ahead of the BTCC season opener at Brands Hatch.

Despite feeling under the weather, Ingram was able to slightly improve on his pace from earlier in the morning at the wheel of his Toyota Avensis to edge the Mercedes of Adam Morgan out of top spot.

Morgan had looked set to steal P1 for himself ahead of Jack Goff’s Honda until the closing stages of the session, with the top three split by less than a tenth of a second.

Having only completed limited running in the first session, Matt Neal was on the pace in his Honda Civic to sit fourth, with Rob Austin and Colin Turkington rounding out the top six.

Giving an indication of how close things look set to be this season, less than a second covered the top 28 cars on the 32 field, although there was one noticeable name outside that mark.

Jason Plato would post only the 31st quickest time in a session where all four Subaru Levorgs failed to shine – with Ash Sutton the best of the quartet in 28th.

Amongst the rookie drivers, there was an impressive performance from Power Maxed Racing’s Senna Proctor, with his Vauxhall Astra breaking into the top ten for the first time.
