Josh Price joins BMR to complete BTCC grid
Team BMR has confirmed that Josh Price will make the step up to the BTCC for 2017 in a deal that completes the grid for the season ahead.
The teenager will join Jason Plato, Ash Sutton and James Cole in the four-car Subaru line-up after putting pen to paper on an agreement that will see him graduate from the Renault Clio Cup UK after a single season.
Whilst Plato, Sutton and Cole will run under the Adrian Flux Subaru Racing banner, Price will be entered as the BMR Racing Academy.
The 18-year-old will replace team boss Warren Scott, who announced he would stand down from his drive to focus on his team manager role – and to compete in British Rallycross – last week.
Price finished sixth in the championship standings last year with Team Pyro – taking a win in the final meeting of the campaign at Brands Hatch – and was set to return to the one-make series this year for an assault on the title.
In fact, Price was announced with Team Pyro earlier this month with backing from the BMR Academy before the opportunity arose to step up to the BTCC.
The late nature of the deal means Price isn’t expected take to the track during the annual Media Day event at Donington Park, although he will get opportunity to sample the rear-wheel drive Levorg before the season kicks off at Brands Hatch with tests scheduled at Pembrey in South Wales.
“I’m extremely overwhelmed by the support of BMR and Subaru to get me on the BTCC grid this season at such short notice,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge that’s ahead, as well as working with a team with such a great pedigree.”
Team owner Scott said he was pleased to give the youngster his chance.
“I am thrilled to welcome Josh into the BMR Racing Academy BTCC team,” he said. “and very much look forward to watching him progress within the championship throughout what promises to be an unforgettable year.”
Price becomes the fifth rookie on the grid for the 2017 season, alongside Ant Whorton-Eales, Senna Proctor, Luke Davenport and Will Burns.
