Vuković Motorsport to run three cars in 2017 ETCC
2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Cup champion Milenko Vuković and his BESAGROUP Team Vuković Motorsport squad will make the switch to the European Touring Car Cup for 2017, running three cars in the Super 2000 Trophy class.
Vuković won the 2016 DTC Super Production title this year, driving an Audi A3, after a close battle with Wolf Racing Ford Fiesta ST driver Heiko Hammel, taking his first title in the German touring car series by just two points.
The 41-year-old Swiss will take his team and his Croatian team-mate Franjo Kovac into the 2017 ETCC and compete in the top tier Super 2000 Trophy class, which is open to cars conforming to FIA TCN2 regulations, of which a number of TCR specification cars are eligible.
The team will announce their third driver as well as the car with which they will compete early next year.
“It’s great Vuković Motorsport has chosen the ETCC for its next motorsport challenge,” said ETCC promoter Francois Ribeiro.
“We look forward to the team enjoying a significant return on its investment through live coverage on Eurosport and online, while also building in stature and growing its experience. The ETCC provides an accessible first step on the international touring car racing ladder for both drivers and teams. Let the adventure begin for all
the Vuković team.”
Team principal and driver Vukovic added:
“We’re very pleased to have announced our participation in next year’s ETCC for what we hope will be a long-term participation in the series. The ETCC is organised and promoted by the same team behind the WTCC, while the coverage on Eurosport is another major bonus. I know the competition is going to be very strong but my aim will be to challenge for the title by making the most of Franjo’s knowledge of front-wheel drive touring cars.”
