Edoardo Mortara aiming for a “perfect weekend” at Hockenheim
Audi Sport driver Edoardo Mortara is looking to win his first title in the DTM at this weekend’s season finale in Hockenheim.
The Italian driver trails leader Marco Wittmann by just 14 points.
“We’ll aim for the perfect weekend” Mortara told TouringCarTimes. “We have shown that we were very competitive in the last couple of race weekends. We won here in the first weekend of the season, so it’s looking not too bad, but it’s going to be difficult.”
The Team Abt Sportsline driver, however, doesn’t think he has an easy task ahead: “I don’t think everything is in my hands. I know that if I do two very good races, it could potentially be possible to win this title. In DTM, it’s not that realistic, as the level is very high, and winning both races will be very, very tough.”
Hockenheim hosts the only official preseason tests, and two of the nine championship rounds. The competition is expected to be tough this weekend.
“Everyone knows the track so well, basically, which makes it even more difficult. You see that the gaps are very small between us all. We come here for testing and race here twice, and there are no magic tricks, as we all know them pretty much that this weekend that our car will be competitive enough.”
The season has been Mortara’s best so far in his DTM career, with the Italian driver having achieved four victories and having a shot at the title for the first time.
“I would say there have been more ups than downs, because I’m still here fighting for the title, but it could have been better or even worse. There were also some incidents this year that cost me some points. In the end, we should be looking at this race weekend to still have the chance and do our best, and see who comes up on top.”
