Miguel Molina sets the pace in second free practice
Audi Sport driver Miguel Molina was the fastest an in the second free practice session held this morning at the Nürburgring, host of the seventh round of the 2016 DTM season.
The session took place under clear skies and warm conditions. The Audi cars were quick on track, as well as the Mercedes.
It was the Stuttgart manufacturer who led the earlier stages of the session, with Gary Paffett and then Christian Vietoris occupying the first position. It looked all set for the three-point star squad, but Miguel Molina clocked a best lap of 1:23.130 in his last attempt.
Christian Vietoris tried to improve in the closing stages of the session, but was second 0.085 seconds behind the Spaniard. The German’s team-mate Lucas Auer was third, 0.198 seconds off the pace.
Next up was Gary Paffett in fourth position, followed by fellow Team ART driver Felix Rosenqvist in a good result for Mercedes AMG. The Swede was 0.303 seconds behind Molina.
Maxime Martin was the fastest man for BMW Motorsport in sixth place, followed by Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta. Nico Müller was eighth for Audi Sport, with standings leader Marco Wittmann in ninth, 0.381 seconds off the pace. Robert Wickens completed the top ten, a further 0.098 seconds behind the Team RMG driver.
The Audi contenders to the title Edoardo Mortara and Jamie Green were 12th and 13th respectively, with the Briton 0.561 seconds behind fellow Audi driver Miguel Molina.
The qualifying for Race 1 is scheduled for 12:35.
