Jamie Green happy with podium finish in Nürburgring

Audi Sport driver Jamie Green managed to keep his options for the title open with a podium result at the race held at the Nürburgring today. The Briton was third after a heated battle in the middle of the race.

“The race today was very interesting” Green told TouringCarTimes. “I lost a position with Juncadella at the start, but managed to get it back at the first corner. The target was Blomqvist, but he made it difficult for us. I was never close enough to be able to make a sensible move.”

Mercedes AMG’s Daniel Juncadella took fourth position from Green on lap 15, but the Briton recovered after a heated duel between the Spaniard and BMW’s Bruno Spengler. “The battle with Juncadella and Bruno was fun, but the best thing was being able to get my position back from them.”

After exhausting his options against Blomqvist, Green allowed Edoardo Mortara to overtake. On the final lap, the Italian let the Briton through: “Edo had run out of opportunities to overtake Blomqvist, so he gave me the position back. It would have been better to finish higher up, but I’m happy with the result.”

The last lap position change caused confusion in the podium, with the organisers drawing the Italian flag for the third place. Jamie Green joked about the situation: “Well, clearly I’m not Italian, but ciao!”

After today’s result, Jamie Green lies third in the Drivers’ standings with 119 points, 36 behind BMW’s Marco Wittmann and only one behind Mercedes AMG’s Robert Wickens.
