Jamie Green to continue DTM title challenge in Moscow

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters is back on track this weekend after a short summer break, with the series visiting the Moscow Raceway for the sixth round of the season. Jamie Green is the best placed driver for Audi Sport in the standings in second position.

The Briton trails the leader, BMW’s Marco Wittmann, by just seven points, after achieving his only win of the season in Zandvoort. Green hopes to continue his current momentum, having achieved other four podiums in the last three rounds of the season. “Following my misfortune at the beginning of the season, things are going as smoothly again as they did last year”, said the Team Rosberg driver.

Team Abt Sportsline’s Edoardo Mortara is next in the standings, 10 points adrift. The Italian had been the best driver for Audi Sport until a ‘drive through’ penalty, after mistakenly having been judged as breaking the virtual safety car rules in Saturday’s race at Zandvoort, sent him to the bottom of the classification. Mortara vows to continue fighting for the title: “I still have chances of winning the title and at Moscow we need to score as many points as possible.”

2013 champion Mike Rockenfeller has the most victories at the Russian track, having won twice in the four races held so far at Moscow. The Team Phoenix driver is looking forward to one of his favourite circuits, hoping to achieve a good result: “Following the bungled first half of the season, I’m really hoping now that we’re finally going to manage the turnaround at Moscow. My guys are leaving no stone unturned so that we’ll be in contention again. Moscow is a great event with a challenging track on which you have to brake into the corners. That’s not easy, but I enjoy it.”

With the season finale less than two months away, Audi Sport lies second in the Manufacturers’ standings, 10 points behind BMW Motorsport. The eight RS 5 DTMs will start the weekend on 1,127.5 kg of performance weight, the heaviest tied up with Mercedes.

Dieter Gass, Head of DTM at Audi Sport, expects his men to do well in Russia: “Moscow marks the beginning of the final sprint in the title race. We’re giving our all to make up further ground in the championship, preferably in all three classifications.”

The sixth round of the 2016 DTM season kicks off on Friday at 17:30 local time for the first free practice session.
