Andrew Jordan pleased to overcome practice off
Andrew Jordan said he was pleased to fight back from an off-track excursion in first practice to secure his best qualifying result of the BTCC season at Knockhill.
The Motorbase Performance driver brought out the red flags during the opening 40 minute session of the weekend when a driveshaft issue resulted in him going off into the barriers at Clark Curve.
With the car repaired, Jordan was able to post a top ten time in the second session and then qualified a solid sixth on the grid for race one – his Ford Focus being the second best front-wheel drive car on the grid after the Toyota of Tom Ingram.
“Tom obviously showed some strong pace and we couldn’t match that, but I think we can be happy at being second fastest of the front-wheel drive cars,” he told TouringCarTimes. “Everyone knows this is a rear wheel drive circuit, and with that in mind, I think we got the most we could from the session.
“Luckily we didn’t lose out too much because of what happened in FP1 and it could have been a lot worse if the failure had come going into turn one at higher speed. Although we struggled a bit with understeer through turn one and turn two in the second session, we managed to do a decent race run and we know we have a car that will be consistent across race day.”
Jordan will now hope to build on his qualifying performance during Sunday’s three races and he said his aims were clear.
“If we can push forwards into the top four in race one, it would be a good start,” he said, “but, with the pace of the rear-wheel drive cars, I think three top six finishes is a realistic target.”
