Tom Coronel ‘surprised’ with top three spot
Tom Coronel finished qualifying in third at Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina, setting the fourth fastest lap of the session in Q3 before moving up a place as Esteban Guerrieri’s lap was disallowed.
A steady learning curve and some strong improvements made with ROAL Motorsport from the first free practice to qualifying were the key to a stunning performance: “This morning the car felt a little bit strange, so my engineer Pietro (Speronello) and I improved the car and in the second session I felt much more confident. The first run in Q1 didn’t feel too comfortable, but we made some changes and they worked.”
Despite making a few little mistakes, Coronel is happy and even surprised with the outcome of the session: “When Q3 came I made some small mistakes here and there, but everything felt okay. I am surprised we ended up in the top five and I even managed to qualify in third, so I’m really happy.”
Coronel was also the fastest independent driver.
