Alberto Viberti takes both TCR Italy pole positions at Mugello

BRC Racing’s Alberto Viberti took pole position for both of tomorrow’s races at Mugello, the fourth round of TCR Italy. The SEAT driver led championship leader Roberto Colciago in the first session, while the AGS driver slipped down to third for Race 2 as Enrico Bettera was a tenth faster than him.

An improved 11-car field in the main TCR class, along with seven TCS cars, crowded the circuit in Tuscany. The second session was red flagged just as Colciago was improving his lap times, although the margin Viberti had (almost four tenths) was considerable.

In the first session Viberti led Colciago and Bettera, while Scotland’s Finlay Crocker was fourth on his debut in Italy at the wheel of the VFR Racing Honda Civic TCR. Samuele Piccin was fifth in the ASD Racing SEAT, ahead of Marco Costamagna in the 2016-spec León prepared by BRC Racing.

Emanuele Alborghetti came seventh on his TCR debut at the wheel of a Honda Civic TCR in last year’s spec, prepared by MM Motorsport. CRC Motorsport’s Daniele Cappellari will start from eighth ahead of Mariano Costamagna in the BRC León, while TCS pole sitter Alberto Bassi will set off the grid from tenth.

In the second session Bettera was second aheaed of Colciago, with Romy Dall’Antonia fourth for ASD Racing. Alborghetti improved to fifth ahead of fellow Honda driver Crocker, with Marco Costamagna seventh. Cappellari stayed in eighth ahead of Massimo Arduini in the 2T Citroën C3 Maxi, with Luigi Bamonte closing the top ten in the MM Motorsport SEAT.

The first race will start today at 16.40 local time, while Race 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at 11.00.
