Colin Turkington: “I’m really enjoying driving this car”
The Subaru Levorg GT’s performance has about-turned since the start of the season, with 2009 and 2014 champion Colin Turkington driving the car to two pole positions in a row, dominating qualifying at Croft with a strong margin in the competitive field.
Turkington’s team-mate Jason Plato qualified in fourth position, with Warren Scott 21st and James Cole 25th.
“Obviously I’m really pleased to continue the strong performance from Oulton,” said Turkington to TouringCarTimes. “Getting pole is a fantastic result for us. It’s never taken for granted or easily done. We’ve had to work really hard through the day to improve the car.”
“I’m really enjoying driving it at the moment, I think that really shows in the performance.”
Turkington’s lead in qualifying was four-tenths of a second over the Eurotech Racing Honda Civic of Daniel Lloyd, with one more second covering over 20 cars in the closely contested session.
“I think my car was just so spot on, so that I was able to push 100%,” explained Turkington.”
The Northern Irishman’s closest challengers were the front-wheel drive Honda of Lloyd and the MG of Ash Sutton, which he admits he doesn’t find surprising, but expects it’ll be different on race day.
“We knew that they would be very fast over one lap, but hopefully our strength will be over the longer run,” he added. “We’ll keep working hard tonight to improve.”
