Yvan Muller surprised with podium in Marrakech

Yvan Muller took the final podium spot in Marrakech, Morocco, after starting from sixth on the grid. The Frenchman admits he was surprised to finish in such a good position.

“For sure it was a surprise, because I started sixth and finished on the podium,” admitted the Citroën driver. “I had a Volvo ahead of me at the start and after that it was impossible to overtake. I am pleased with the result, although I lost too much time at the start.”

The race was smooth for Muller after the start, and he felt no pressure from Honda’s Tiago Monteiro behind: “I was just following the two drivers in front of me (Tom Coronel and José María López) and the race was okay, although the issue with the brakes here is serious. Of course I was close to Pechito (José María López) but every car is close to the other on this circuit, it’s very narrow and when you are on the grid you think ‘where do I go if a car stalls?’, because it would be complicated. Anyway it was a clean battle, so that was okay. I didn’t feel any pressure at all from Monteiro during the race.”

Muller scored his second podium of the season in Marrakech after coming second in the main race in Hungary.
