Augusto Farfus highlights strong team effort at Hockenheim

Augusto Farfus has started the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season on a positive note, with a podium finish on Sunday’s race held at Hockenheim this weekend.

The Brazilian, now at BMW Team MTEK, was third at the chequered flag, but moved up one position after Timo Glock’s exclusion due to a technical infringement.

“I had a good car today, and was able to be fast,” the Brazilian told TouringCarTimes. “Then came the pit stop and, after that, I experienced a lot of tyre degradation. I have great respect for my team-mates so, when Timo caught me, I didn’t put any opposition, as I knew he was a lot faster than me. The important thing today was to be a team player to maximise the points we could get here.”

Farfus also evaluated the team’s progress: “Today BMW was strong and showed good pace, but the championship is long and we have to go step by step, and see where we are in a few races.”

The Brazilian also had time to evaluate the impact of the regulation changes in the competition: “The DTM has worked very hard to give a good show to the fans. Surely, there are things we have to improve, but things like the new performance weights have helped to balance things and create a better show for everybody. I think it’s a step in the right direction.”

Augusto Farfus is sixth in the overall standings after the first round of the 2016 DTM season, with 18 points in his account.
