Adam Morgan escapes unscathed from practice accident

Adam Morgan saw his Mercedes A-Class escape largely unscathed from an accident that caused the opening free practice session of the BTCC weekend at Thruxton to be red-flagged.

Morgan was part way through a race run at the wheel of his WIX Racing-run car when a puncture going into turn one saw his car go off into the barriers on the outside of the circuit with seven minutes remaining.

With the car having been returned to the paddock following the session, initial investigations from the team revealed that the damage to the front of the car wasn’t as bad as first feared, with work now ongoing to repair the Mercedes ahead of second practice.

“The car felt good and the lap times were quite consistent, which was encouraging,” he told TouringCarTimes. “However, starting lap 15, we had a tyre let go going into turn one and the car just went straight on into the barrier. Luckily, the damage isn’t as bad as we first thought and it looks like it’s mainly cosmetic and bodywork, so the boys are on it.

“We’re not sure yet what caused the puncture as we hadn’t pushed the set-up and were playing it safe with cambers and things like that, so we’ll have a look at the set-up and decide which way to go.”

Morgan was one of a number of drivers to endure punctures in the session, with Ash Sutton’s MG and the VW of Aron Smith both suffering left front failures, and the Toyota of Tom Ingram suffering both a front right and left rear punture.
