Fredrik Lestrup wins Sachsenring Race 2, leaves with points lead
Sweden’s Fredrik Lestrup won the second race of the day at the Sachsenring in the Besaplast Racing MINI John Cooper Works, in a close battle with the Audi of Milenko Vukovic and the MINI of Kai Jordan, with the three cars less than a second a part at the finish.
Lestrup withstood race-long pressure from Vukovic’s A3 saloon in the Superproduction class
“I am very happy that I could win this race,” said Lestrup “There were great fights with Milenko and for me it was important for the championship. I now have eight points lead over Heiko Hammel – that’s a bit reassuring for me.”
Hammel had retired early in the race following contact from Vukovic, after being caught up in the Swiss driver’s battle with Kai Jordan.
In Production 2, Kevin Metzner won the second race of the day in the Volkswagen Scirocco and the 17-year-old assumes the class points lead, while the Production 1 class victory went the way of Dirk Lauth in the MINI Racing Team MINI Cooper.
The next round of the DTC is at Zandvoort in two weeks’ time.
