Dusan Borkovic not sure his car can be fixed for tomorrow
Dusan Borkovic crashed out of Turn 3 during the first segment of qualifying at Estoril, Portugal. The Serbian crashed quite hard into the barriers and, although the driver was fortunately uninjured in the accident, his B3 Racing SEAT León TCR was heavily damaged.
The car has the front right part of the chassis severely bent, and technicians are now trying to fix the car as much as possible for the former European Touring Car Champion to be on the grid tomorrow, where he will start from the back of the grid.
“I don’t know exactly what happened,” said Borkovic to TouringCarTimes about his accident. “I just lost the rear of the car, it oversteered and the wall was quite close, so I hit it hard with the front right. I never had this problem before, oversteer on the exit of a corner, so something must have happened. I might just have pushed too much.”
Speaking about his chances for tomorrow, the Serbian hopes the car will be fixed in time: “The chassis is quite bent, the front right has a lot of damage. We will try to fix the car and make sure I can start tomorrow.”
Borkovic is aware his B3 Racing SEAT might be not as quick as it was before, as all the geometry of the car could change: “I am a fighter, so I want to start, even from the back of the grid. If it’s too bad I can still stop in the first couple of laps, but we need to try. I believe I can still score points for tomorrow, and every single point can be important for the championship.”
Borkovic arrived in Portugal sitting third in the championship, but the results in qualifying mean WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli is now ahead on 30 points, 21 fewer than leader Pepe Oriola, and Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Sergey Afanasyev is now fourth, one point ahead of the Serbian.
