Fredrik Lestrup wins the first round of the DTC at Oschersleben
Reigning champion Fredrik Lestrup started 2016 as he finished 2015, taking victory in the opening round of the Deutscher Tourenwagen Cup at Oschersleben from the back of the grid in his Besaplast Racing MINI John Cooper Works.
Heiko Hammel had started in pole position in his Wolf Racing Ford Fiesta ST and led in the early stages, but Lestrup worked his way forward from ninth in the Super Production class to join Hammel mid-race and depose the Ford driver of the lead, and went on to take the win by 3.1 seconds.
Kai Jordan finished third in his MINI JCW, with Alexander Rambow the best placed of the new Kia Pro_Cee’ds in fourth, while Milenko Vukovic finished fifth in his Audi A3.
In the Production 2 class, Thomas Mühlenz converted pole position into victory in his Konrad Motorsport-run Volkswagen Scirocco, finishing just two-tenths of a second ahead of Kevin Metzner’s Scirocco, while Dirk Lauth won in Production 1 in his MINI JCW in the 1.6 litre normally aspirated class.
Qualifying for Race 2 takes place at 8:45 CET on Sunday with the race at 15:45.
