Colin Turkington happy with Subaru Levorg debut performance
Colin Turkington enjoyed his return to rear-wheel-drive machinery in the Subaru Levorg, but warned off anyone reading into the Team BMR pace in FP1.
The two-time BTCC champion had his first run-out in the brand new Subaru Levorg, save from ten minutes on Friday evening, and praised the work of the Team BMR mechanics in building a car that ran well “straight out of the box”.
“I enjoyed it! The car was quite a handful but I enjoyed it,” said Turkington. “That’s the first time my car has turned a wheel with exception of ten minutes last night so we just run the session to get a feeling of what the car’s going to do, how it reacts, how it performs. There were no dramas out there, the car ran well, it’s a great credit to the guys, [the car] is straight out of the box, it’s not even shook down, so now we’ve got something to work from.”
With some base knowledge now, the team can start to look to moving up the field, with Turkington finishing FP1 as the highest Team BMR driver in 17th, but the 2015 Independents’ champion was still quiet on any expectations for the weekend.
“Its hard to determine how quickly we can move it forward, where we’re strong or where we’re weak, we’ve don’t know any of that yet without having a trawl through the data. We know what the car does now so we can start to fix some of the problems.”
