Soap star Kelvin Fletcher joins Power Maxed Racing for 2016
British soap star Kelvin Fletcher will drive the second Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze in the 2016 British Touring Car Championship.
Fletcher, better known to many as Andy Sugden in British TV soap Emmerdale, joins Hunter Abbott in the Warwickshire-based squad for their second season in the championship.
The 32-year-old competed in three rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2014, and also took part in the Porsche Supercup race supporting the British Formula One Grand Prix in the same season.
“Very excited to be here,” said Fletcher at the BTCC Media Day at Donington Park. “I think it’s no secret I’ve always been an avid motorsport fan. My career in motorsport started relatively late on by taking a dive into club motorsport in 2012.
“I’ve got to be realistic but I always had a dream to maybe race in the British Touring Car Championship. It’s the old chiche of a dream come true but I’d like to prove I’m not just that guy off the TV!”
“We are delighted to welcome Kelvin to PMR and give him his chance to step up into the BTCC, added Power Maxed Racing team boss Adam Weaver. “He has a strong sportscar track record and he is more than ready to make the transition to the UK’s finest domestic racing series. We think Kelvin is an excellent choice to race alongside Hunter, we feel they will work together and will both be turning a few heads this year.”
